Charles Mance of Tracy won first place for a 76.6-pound tuna. Chartermaster and Central Valley Marine owner Brett Townsend of San Jose was second, for a 73-pounder. Jason Eggert of Pleasanton won third place for a 67-pound yellowfin tuna.

Bob O???Neil of Valencia won first place for a 121-pound tuna. Steve Zierlinski of Queens, NY was second, for a 113.8-pounder. Norman Chibana of Gardena was right behind him with a 113.6-pound yellowfin.

Brian Henricks of San Pedro won first place for a 123-pound tuna. Scott WEolff of Simi Valley was second for a 109.4-pounder, and he was tied by John Drnello of Templeton, who got his 109.4-pounder on 40-pound line. He said it was the first big fish of the trip.

One was caught by Jan Howard at 40 yards. Jan got five big tuna to 119 pounds, and she said most came at 200 yards, on sardines.

The next day, when I had another hookup on the short rod, I passed it to Scott Benson, a new Yorker and former east coast deckhand. Scott was reluctant to take a handoff at first, but he hadn???t got a big one yet, and our time was getting short. He took the fish, brought the 75-pounder boatside shortly, and thanked me.

Craig Arnold of Bonsall got a 121.6-pounder Tim Turner of Northridge was second, for a 103-pound tuna. Tom Kelly of Rancho Palos Verdes was third, for a 97.1-pound Alijos Rocks yellowfin tuna.

Ed Dennis of garden Grove won first place for a 117.8-pound tuna. Rod Morris of Vista won second for a 117.4-pounder, and Don Maquett of Encinitasd was third, for a 117.1-pounder.

First place was won by Fred Adams of Tehachapi, for a 119-pound yellowfin.

Sean Cummings of Yorba Linda won first place, for a 129-pound yellowfin. Ryan Kluver of San Clemente was second, for a 121-pounder. Greg Morper of Wenatchee, WA won third place for a 95-pound yellowfin tuna.

Tito Lazcano of San Gabriel won first place, for a 131-pound yellowfin. Bob Chapman of Newport Beach was second for a 124-pounder. Jim Tallerico of Las Vegas won third place for a 114-pound tuna. Dado DeLeon of Cerritos had the best yellowtail, a 52-pounder.

John Finneran of Costa Mesa won first place for a great 135-pound yellowfin. Chip Mezin of Garden Grove was second, for a 128-pounder. Bill Cain of Mission Viejo won third place, for a 127.8-pound yellowfin tuna.

Debbie the skips wife caught the biggest Tuna and Wahoo. Way to go Debbie!!!

Debbie???s tuna weighed 116 pounds. Fred Dunham of Spring Valley won second place for an 86-pound tuna. Dylan Palmer of Santee was third, for a 79.8-pound yellowfin tuna.

Butch Peters of Fresno won first place for a 92.4-pound yellowfin. Randy Isogawa of Fresno was second, for an 85.4-pound tuna. Ron Walker of Poway won third place, for a 75.4-pound Alijos yellowfin.

Adam Harris of Escondido won first place for am 80-pound tuna. Jim Sullivan of San Mateo was second, for a 78-pounder. Mike Toetter of San Diego was third, for a 45-pound wahoo. Erik Nelson stood in with a 77-pound wahoo he took on an Ahi Jet in Petrolero color. Jim Bowman of San Diego won the Rollo jackpot for the best yellowtail, a 35.8-pounder.

Conway Woo won first place for a 120-pound yellowfin. Mario Bustamente of Long Beach was second, for a 119-pounder that ate a squid. Lyle McDonald of Cameron Park won third place for a 106-pound tuna. Mark Oliver of Poway won honorable mention for a 126-pound Alijos Rocks kite-caught tuna.

We dropped the feathers and immediately hooked up on the troll. Good way to start the day!
