We found a nice paddy that went absolutely wide open on dorado and small yellowtail so everyone on the boat was hooked up with fish jumping and darting everywhere. Yellowfin tuna crashed the party and the action really heated up. Eric was still understandably upset about the skippy incident, but you know nothing personal. Superstitions gotta start somehow. He forgave us and was feeling pretty good when he hooked one of the first yellowfin tuna to crash the baits.

Just about every paddy he hit was loaded with dorado and yellowtail, with some yellowfin mixed in to make for some really awesome fishing. You were never sure what you were going to hook till you're bait got picked up the fish started pullling. Edgar's fish pulled extra hard and dove down deep so we knew it was a nice tuna. Sure enough. Nice one Edgar !

Edgars not the tallest guy on the boat and Justins not the shortest but the important thing here is, "Look at the size of that nice yellowfin !"

Jumping Yellowfin

I have a very acute sense of hearing and the "word on the water" is that the SPORTFISHINGREPORT.COM charter with Captain Bill Cavanaugh aboard the PACIFIC QUEEN out of FISHERMAN'S LANDING is the can't miss charter of the year. I looked on the site at some photos from previous trips and sure enough, for several years running the SFR charter has been a booming success with huge scores of fish. Captain Cavanaugh and the crew were more than ready to keep the streak going strong and by looking at some of there recent counts I could tell the Captain would get us on the fish. Chartermaster Edgar put together the eager group of 31 anglers and we headed down the ramp and jumped on board the awesome Pacific Queen, ready to spend the entire day searching out kelp paddies for yellowfin tuna, yellowtail and dorado. Yeah I know they look look like albacore, but work with me here.

I put the rod down for a second and stood back to survey the action and take it all in. The action was wide open yellowtail, dorado or yellowfin on every bait that hit the water. For a little while there I thought I was in Legoland with a bunch of 6 year olds. I have never seen so many grown men jumping up and down yelling "Can we do it again, Can we, can we. Can we do it again. One more time please, one more time!" I said "Sonny you go grab yourself a fresh sardine, pin it on that 2/0 hook and throw it out because you're a big boy now." Awww! to be a kid again. I think thats why we all love fishing so much. Ed was feeling it when he landed this nice yellowfin tuna in the frenzy.

Captain Bill Cavanaugh

Capatin Cavanaugh was working the bait tank and had the yellowfin boiling in the corner on every chum bait he threw out. He pleaded for someone, anyone to throw a bait on them. When no one answered his pleas he jumped off the tank, grabbed a rod and threw a bait at them himself. Of course he hooked yellowfin in about five seconds flat.
