Marco Ramirez of Torrance won first place for a 74.8-pound tuna. Michael Rayner of LA was second, for a 71.2-pounder, and Rodger Kang of Fresno tied him with a tuna of exactly the same size.

Ron Goodrich of Pueblo, CO won first place with his 93 pound Tuna. Dale Stilwell of Laguna Niguel was second, for an 88.6-pounder. Mike Simmons of Lemon Grove won third place for a 76-pound Guadalupe yellowfin tuna. Ben Frazier of Oxnard brought his trip???s best yellowtail, a 38-pounder.

Ben Murphy of Point Loma, a former deckhand, won first place for an 88-pound yellowfin tuna. Rob Pennell of Pt. Loma won second place for an 82.7-pounder. Steve Stutz of Pt. Loma was third, for an 80-pound yellowfin tuna.

Tim Campbell, owner of Swifty Mfg., won first place, for a 72.5-pound yellowfin. Scott Taves of Visalia won second place for a 67-pounder, and Steve Huth of Glendora tied him with another tuna the same size.

Steve Sowa of Long Beach won first place for a 71-pound tuna. Rob Seale of Rancho Cucamonga won second place for a 67-pounder. Scott Mohr of Tucson got third place for a 60.8-pound yellowfin tuna.

Drue Cicchetto, 17 and a student at San Diego???s High Tech High International, found a super-sized tuna to win first place in the Star???s big fish contest.

These are from our first kelp paddy stop. Wide open bite. Everybody was hooked up. We got Yellowfin & Dorado just boiling everywhere.

Got my limits of Yellowfin Tuna, one Dorado, one Yellowtail, & bunch of Skippys. I even won the jackpot of the day. WOW!! Just great awesome day. I want to thank Chad Woods for setting this ULTIMATE UTLRA LIGHT trip up. And for the well organized crew of Captain Terry, everybody had a ball. Thank you very much. SUPER CREW SUPER BOAT!!!!

For a first timer, he did a good job. I'm sure he'll go for another trip.

Dale caught lotsa of fish. He's a good fisherman & true sportsman. I hope I'll see you on our next SFR trip.

Pete Simokaitis of Chicago, IL won first place for the tuna, a 69.5-pound yellowfin. Paul Lucio of Brawley was second, for a 54-pound yellowtail. Chartermaster White won third place for a 39.6-pound mossback. In the lineup after the first three place winners were Jeff Esquivel of Moreno Valley, with a 54.8-pound wahoo; Frank York of San Diego, with a white seabass; Mark White (Gary???s son) of Massillon, OH, with a 24.4-pound halibut; John Bochler of Iron River, WI, with a small bluefin tuna taken in 73-degree water; and skipper Steward, with a good dorado.

Sanford Morita of Placentia won first place, for a 96-pound tuna. Joe Horejsi of Seal Beach won second place for a 92-pounder. Kent Iwata of Valencia was third, for an 88-pound yellowfin tuna. Glenn Eastes of Lake Isabella stood in with the winners and his (ineligible) kite-caught 113.8-pound tuna.

Dick Langlois of Rancho Cucamonga won first place for a 69-pound tuna. Dick???s son Tom Langlois of Rancho Cucamonga was second, for a 57-pound tuna. Kalob Hall of Victorville won third place, for a 45-pound yellowfin tuna.

John Everts of Chatsworth won first place for a 29.4-pound yellowtail. Bob Bower of Lake Forest was second, for a 27.8-pound yellow. Gary Adams of Palmdale won third place for a 27.6-pound yellowtail.

We found a nice paddy that went absolutely wide open on dorado and small yellowtail so everyone on the boat was hooked up with fish jumping and darting everywhere. Yellowfin tuna crashed the party and the action really heated up. Eric was still understandably upset about the skippy incident, but you know nothing personal. Superstitions gotta start somehow. He forgave us and was feeling pretty good when he hooked one of the first yellowfin tuna to crash the baits.

Ed gotta a bait past the yellowtail and in the mouth of a nice yellowfin as well.
