Since there was no trolling jackpot, there was a fourth-place winner: Charles Buzzetti of Atascadero, who got a 91-pound yellowfin tuna.

Ron Volmer of Hermosa Beach won first place for a 78-pound yellowfin tuna. William Lopez of Chino Hills was second, for a 74-pound tuna. Larry Diamant of Malibu won third place for a 72-pounder. Two of the big yellowtail weighed 48 and 46 pounds, caught by Chris Seabourn of Valencia and Greg Sharp of Newbury Park. They posed in the jackpot photo.

The best fish from Guadalupe Island so far this season bit on a foot-long squid with a Braid Mongo 6/0 Stainless Steel hook buried in it. Dennis Braid was on the other end of the rig, and 15 minutes later the 137.5-pound yellowfin tuna was on the deck of the Royal Star. He caught the fish on the kite, so he was not eligble for the jackpot

The biggest fish caught was a 103-pounder taken by Richard Battaglia of Mexico City on a chunk bait stuck on a 6/0 Super Mutu hook. Richard???s 60-pound Izorline helped him get it to the boat, but then a white shark took a loving nip on its tail, disqualifying the big yellowfin from the jackpot.

Bill Campbell won first place with his Yellowfin. Kent Fukimoto of Santa And won second place for his 99-pounder. Eric Fukumitsu of San Francisco was third, for a 91-pounder. Eric Wright won fourth place (since there was no trolling prize, because there was no trolling on the trip) for an 83.6-pound Guadalupe yellowfin tuna. Hank Hamada, owner of the Hibachi Steak House in Anaheim, caught a 50.5-pound yellowtail on 40-pound line and a flylined sardine, so he was invited into the jackpot lineup with his lifetime-best fish.
