Ron Volmer of Hermosa Beach won first place for a 78-pound yellowfin tuna. William Lopez of Chino Hills was second, for a 74-pound tuna. Larry Diamant of Malibu won third place for a 72-pounder. Two of the big yellowtail weighed 48 and 46 pounds, caught by Chris Seabourn of Valencia and Greg Sharp of Newbury Park. They posed in the jackpot photo.

The best fish from Guadalupe Island so far this season bit on a foot-long squid with a Braid Mongo 6/0 Stainless Steel hook buried in it. Dennis Braid was on the other end of the rig, and 15 minutes later the 137.5-pound yellowfin tuna was on the deck of the Royal Star. He caught the fish on the kite, so he was not eligble for the jackpot

Louis Papai of Torrance won the 1st place jackpot prize with his yellowfin. Liwei Liao of LA won second place, for a 94-pounder. Dennis Liao of NYC was third, for an 80-pound yellowfin tuna.

A group of anglers from Phoenix made up part of the passenger load. They posed with some of their tuna.

Ron Derr of Phoenix, AZ won first place for a 71.8-pound tuna. Ed Bergnaud of Temecula was second, for a 71.2-pounder. Phill Spiller of Huntington Beach tied with Pery Gordon of Tempe, AZ for third. Both had 70.8-pound tuna.

Tom Kroes of Tipton was first, for a 65.2-pound yellowfin tuna. Everett Combs of Palm Springs was second, for a 62-pounder. Alan Holleyman of Napa won third place for a 60.6-pound tuna. Bill Kuehl of Poway stood in with the winner, posing with his 50-pound wahoo

The biggest fish caught was a 103-pounder taken by Richard Battaglia of Mexico City on a chunk bait stuck on a 6/0 Super Mutu hook. Richard???s 60-pound Izorline helped him get it to the boat, but then a white shark took a loving nip on its tail, disqualifying the big yellowfin from the jackpot.

Mike Reader of Torrance won first place, for an 86-pounder.

There was no jackpot on the trip, so Robert posed with his pal John Johnson of Las Vegas, with the 133-pounder John got after Robert set it up for him. ???It???s my first trip,??? remarked Johnson.

The trophy went to Bill Campbell of Placentia, who won first place for a 110-pound tuna that made an error with a sardine hanging under the kite.

Bill Campbell won first place with his Yellowfin. Kent Fukimoto of Santa And won second place for his 99-pounder. Eric Fukumitsu of San Francisco was third, for a 91-pounder. Eric Wright won fourth place (since there was no trolling prize, because there was no trolling on the trip) for an 83.6-pound Guadalupe yellowfin tuna. Hank Hamada, owner of the Hibachi Steak House in Anaheim, caught a 50.5-pound yellowtail on 40-pound line and a flylined sardine, so he was invited into the jackpot lineup with his lifetime-best fish.

John Anderson of Minneola, NY took first place for a 77-pound yellowfin tuna. Barry Norton of Las Vegas won second place for a 74.2-pound tuna. Brian Abramowitz of San Diego won third place for a 73.8-pound tuna.

Aaron Plugge of El Segundo found the biggest dog among the tuna caught at Guadalupe Island, a 125-pounder that ate a flylined squid. Robert Barnhill of Hemet won second place for a 106-pounder. Fred Latasa of Oceanside was third, for a 77-pound yellowfin tuna.

Firefighters Tim Marshall of Escondido and Jim Mickelson of Carlsbad fished aboard the rig.

Matt Wilson of Santa Barbara won first place for an 81.7-pound tuna.

Zeric Martinez of Las Vegas won first place on the trip for a 81 lb Yellowtail. Ben Susman of Dana Point was second, for a 73.6-pounder. Loren Martinez won third place for a 70.6-pound yellowfin tuna.

Here's my first Yellowfin. What an incredible experience! Special thanks goes to AJ for keeping me calm and patient, he must have seen that twitch in my eye when I'm about to man handle my fish...

And the jackpot goes to Mr. Rudy Coto with this very nice YFT. Rudy fought this fish for quite some time before landing it on deck. Way to go Rudy!

Dave Shoemaker of Riverside won first place for a 71.4-pounder. David Brewer of Huntington Beach was second, for a 69-pound tuna. He also won the Rollo jackpot for the best yellowtail, a 40-pounder. Nghia Nguyen of Anaheim Hills was third, for a 67.4-pound Guadalupe yellowfin tuna.
