Bob Falkenberg of San Diego won the jackpot for a 48-pound yellowfin. Scott McKay of Pt. Loma was second for a 41.8-pound albacore. Dan Fischer of Agoura Hills won third place, for a 41-pound longfin.

Twelve-year-old Ernie Alex Montano of La Habra won second place for a 65.6-pound Yellowfin.

Chris Burt of Whittier won first place for a 69-pound yellowfin that came on the boat???s kite rig (kite fish counted in the jackpot because a full rotation was achieved) Twelve-year-old Ernie Alex Montano of La Habra won second place for a 65.6-pounder. Marty Connoly of Poway was third, for a 65-pound yellowfin tuna.

We fired up the engines, put the trolling rods out and grabbed the binoculars. The crew spotted a huge school of porpoise jumping and frolicking on the horizon(man these things live the good life) so we set off to investigate. We trolled through the school and sure enough the feathers get slammed by a school of yellowfin tuna. Bill Valdez was ready with a fresh bait and it got slammed as soon as it hit the water. He battled this nice yellowfin for awhile before getting it to the boat. Chris Carbrey stuck it with the gaff and Bill was one happy angler. Good Job Bill. Nice One !!!

Bill Valdez wasn't the only Bill to get in on the tuna action. Bill Sperry from West Covina hooked and landed a nice yellowfin tuna as well. We boxed the area for a while and trolled through the schools of porpoise but couldn't get anymore tuna to hit the feathers or bait.

We found another school of porpoise so we trolled on through looking for the yellowfin. Josh got bit again and landed this smaller sized yellowfin.

Diane's number was up to troll just as the feathers got slammed again. A nicer grade yellowfin tuna was the result. We tried like crazy but were unable to get the tuna to come up and eat the baits.

The yellowfin takes it !!! The jackpot was close but Bill Valdez's nice yellowfin barely beat out a nice dorado. Way to go Bill. Nice yellowfin !! No trolled fish allowed in this Jackpot.

Toshio Kimura of Placentia took a 105-pound tuna and won the jackpot. Jim Chaunsee of Sacramento won second place for an 87-pounder. Frank Delgado of Sacramento was third, for a 75-pound yellowfin tuna.

Bill Romo of Tarzana won first place for a 97-pound tuna. Jeff Lemieux of Tujunga won second place for a 65.4-pounder. Rick Jones of Bakersfield was third, for a 66-pound yellowfin tuna.

SAC president Bob Fletcher played upon his notorious luck, bagging the best fish of the trip, a 109.8-pound yellowfin. Mark Shimozaki of Lodi was second, for a 92.8-pounder. Frank Griskus of Bakersfield won third place for a 73.6-pound yellowfin tuna.

Paul Suter of Sedalia, CO won first place. He took a 71.3-pound yellowfin. Jerrad Dobson of San Marcos, TX won second place for a 69-pound tuna. Mike Small of Lakeside was third, for a 66.6-pounder. Chartermaster Fred Bowden, was fourth with his 64-pound yellowfin.

Gregg Dahle of Hermosa Beach took first place for his 70.4-pound tuna. Matt Salas of Redondo Beach, won second place, for a 68.3-pound tuna. Vince Duro of Highland won third place for a 67.7-pound yellowfin tuna.

Jimmie Woo of Diamond Bar won first place, and the Seeker trophy for the best fish taken on a Seeker rod. Dan Morrison of Mission Viejo won second place for a 101-pounder. Joe Arimitsu of Simi Valley was third, for a 98.2-pound yellowfin tuna.

Marvin Chan won third place for a 66.2-pounder.

Rob Rohrke won first and second places, for tuna of 78 and 63.6 pounds.

Edgar Garcia of San Ramon won first place, for a 67.7-pound tuna. Michael Young of LA was second, for a 56.7-pound tuna. Jerry Stires of Silver Lakes won third place, for a 56.6-pound yellowfin tuna. Dan Robinson of Alhambra was invited into the lineup with his 40.6-pound yellowtail.

A flying fish was the right bait for a 123.8-pound yellowfin that came to Mike Manoukian of Canoga Park.
